Highlights

Yala National Park jeep safari (half day) · 4 h · about ₹5,500 per person. Leave at 5:30am for the 6am gate. Leopards are most often seen in busy Block 1; ask about Block 5 for fewer jeeps.
Yala full-day safari · Full day · about ₹9,000 per person. Better odds for leopard and sloth bear; take a packed lunch.
Bundala National Park birding safari · 3.5 h · about ₹4,000 per person. Ramsar wetland 30 min from Tissa; flamingos usually Sep–Mar.
Kataragama temple evening puja · 2 h · free. Sacred to Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims; the evening puja at the Maha Devale is around 6:30pm. Fruit-plate offerings are sold outside.
Tissa Wewa lake & Tissamaharama stupa · 1.5 h · free
Sithulpawwa rock temple · 2 h · free. In the Yala buffer zone; easy to combine with a morning safari.
Udawalawe safari & Elephant Transit Home · 5 h · about ₹5,000 per person. About 1.5h from Tissa or on the way from Ella; open herds in the park plus feeding of orphaned calves at set times. A good alternative to Pinnawala.

Tissamaharama guesthouses (budget, ₹2,000–₹3,500 a night): Hosts arrange safari jeeps for the 5:30am start.
Tissa Wewa lakeside (mid, ₹5,000–₹9,000 a night): Pools and bird-filled lake views, 30 min to the gate.
Yala park-edge resorts and tented camps (premium, ₹15,000–₹40,000 a night): Closest to the gate, often with safaris included.

Yala Block 1 usually closes for about six weeks from September; check dates before booking.
