Best time to visit Maldives
The Maldives has two monsoons. The dry northeast monsoon (Iruvai, about December–April) brings calm seas, the best visibility and peak prices, with Christmas–New Year the most expensive. The southwest monsoon (Hulhangu, about May–November) brings more rain, wind and choppier transfers, but also surf, manta feeding at Hanifaru Bay in Baa and lower resort rates. Whale sharks in South Ari are seen year-round. Ramadan dates shift each year; local islands are quieter then, while resorts carry on as normal.
