Things to do in Katra (Vaishno Devi)
- Vaishno Devi yatra to the Bhawan · Full day · about ₹500 per person. About 13 km uphill from Banganga on a paved, lit path open round the clock. An RFID yatra card (register online with the Shrine Board, or at Katra) is mandatory. Ponies, palkis and battery cars cover parts of the route.
- Helicopter to Sanjichhat · 4 h · about ₹2,200 per person. Short flights from Katra to Sanjichhat, leaving about 2.5 km to walk to the Bhawan. Book only through the Shrine Board's site; flights stop in bad weather.
- Bhairon temple by ropeway · 2 h · about ₹200 per person. Pilgrims traditionally visit Bhairon after the Bhawan; the ropeway cuts the steep climb to a few minutes.
- Shiv Khori cave day trip · 8 h · about ₹2,500 per person. A cave shrine about 3h by road from Katra, then a 3.5 km walk; it gets very crowded around Mahashivratri.
- Patnitop day trip · 8 h · about ₹3,000 per person. A pine-covered hill station about 2h away, with meadows at Sanasar and snow in winter.
- Jammu: Raghunath temple and Bahu Fort · 6 h · about ₹2,500 per person. Combine with a flight from IXJ: the Raghunath temple complex, Bahu Fort and the Mubarak Mandi palace.
